Meet Mike Fisher, Idler Shop Weld Supervisor

In our latest employee spotlight, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Mike Fisher, the Idler Shop Weld Supervisor, to learn more about his role, journey, and passions. Mike’s expertise and dedication are vital to our operations, and his story is both inspiring and insightful.

A Day in the Life

Mike’s role is crucial in the idler shop, where he oversees the production of rollers, also known as idlers. These components are essential for conveyor systems, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.

“We take the tubing, cut it to the correct size, weld bearings into the ends, and create a roll or idler. These are then placed into frames, forming the components of conveyors,” Mike explains.

The Journey into Manufacturing

Mike’s journey into manufacturing began early. He was one of those students who thrived in shop class during high school, where he learned the fundamentals of welding. This early passion led to various welding jobs, eventually bringing him to his current role as a welding supervisor. His story is a testament to the importance of hands-on learning and following one’s passion.

What Mike Loves About His Job

When asked about his favorite part of the job, Mike didn’t hesitate:

“Just getting to work with everyone. I work from Paul down to the employees here, other supervisors, and into the HR department. We all work together to get the job done at the end of the day.”

This sense of camaraderie and teamwork is what makes his job fulfilling.

Advice for New Employees

Mike has valuable advice for newcomers:

“Hang in there. It’s really tough sometimes when you first start because it’s new. It can be frustrating at times and very fulfilling at others. Starting out is labor-intensive, but like anything else, in a few days, you get the hang of it, and it becomes routine.”

Skills for Success

Anyone joining the team needs to be patient and willing to ask questions. Mike emphasizes the importance of general labor skills and proactively seeking help when needed.

“It’s a very family-oriented business, and employees work together very well. Everyone’s always willing to help out,” he says.

Life Beyond Work

Outside of work, Mike is passionate about vintage cars, muscle cars, trucks, and all things automotive. His hobbies reflect his hands-on nature and love for working with his hands.

Mike Fisher’s dedication, skill, and passion make him an invaluable team member. His story reminds us of the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and following one’s passion in achieving success.
